  • Branaire-Ducru was once part of Ch. Beychevelle in the 17th Century, which was subsequently sold off several times until it reached the hands of current owner, Patrick Maroteaux
  • A "fourth growth" chateau in Saint-Julien, it has enjoyed a significant improvement under the new owner since 1989 vintage
  • 60 hectare of vineyards with 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit-Verdot, at average age of 35 years old, which is believed to be the ideal age of vines
  • This fully mature 1989 should show you Branaire-Ducru's passion, dedication and excellency in winemaking

Wine Advocate: 93
" Approaching full maturity, the sumptuous, fleshy, dark garnet-colored 1989 is a top success for Branaire. This flashy wine exhibits sweet raspberry and black currant fruit intermixed with some lead pencil, cedar, chocolate, and new oak. The wine is medium-bodied, supple-textured, and luscious. A very sexy effort, this wine should be drunk over the next 10-12 years." (Mar 2002)

Wine Spectator: 90
" Harmonious, balanced and very fresh '89. Color is medium-dark ruby, with lovely fresh floral and raspberry aromas. Medium- to full-bodied, well-integrated tannins and a fruity, minty aftertaste." (May 1999)
