Beaucastel is perhaps the most famous, largest (>200 hectares) and one of the oldest estates in Chateauneuf du Pape dating all the way back to 1549. Beaucastel was one of the very first domaines to practise organic viticulture. Unusually, all 13 permitted grape varieties are grown although it is Mourvèdre which is Beaucastel’s signature grape, often making up a third of the final blend.
Jeannie Cho: 93 "Dark garnet with slight browning on the edges. A beautiful bouquet of spices, hint of floral, mixed berries. Excellent richness; a bold and powerful red at its prime. Well balanced with long finish.” (Dec 1994)
