  • Domaine Jacques-Frederic Mugnier has earned its two-star rating from Clive Coates, MW
  • Many refer the domaine's current winemaker, Freddy Mugnier, as the "air pilot winemaker" as Freddy used to work as a air pilot three days week while he first took over the domaine in 2004
  • The flagship wine of the domaine is definitely his premier cru Monopole Clos de la Marechale in Nuits-Saint-Georges
  • Clos de la Marechale has been Mugnier's monopole since 1902; previously leased to Faiveley and returned to Mugnier in 2003
  • With size >9 hectares, this is the largest monopole in Cote d'Or with vines on average of 45 years - excellent wine to begin drinking now!
Burghound: 90
"This reflects the elegance that can be found in Prémeaux and the Mugnier touch only adds to this with a nicely complex and aromatically expressive nose that offers detailed and pure aromas of earth, black fruit and plum that dissolve into beautifully complex, refined and balanced flavors that also display ample finishing minerality, a touch of austerity and reasonably good phenolic ripeness. There is some noticeable acidity on the backend but it's not enough to cause dryness. A really lovely effort that should age effortlessly and while this presently has a touch of forest floor on the nose, I suspect that it will pass in time." (Nov 2011)
