"Ruby-red. Explosive aromas of black cherry, iron, brown spices, leather and earth; shows a distinctly roasted aspect. Still holding some gas following a late end (August '99) to the malolactic fermentation. Fat, voluminous and rather powerful, with very rich kirsch, shoe polish and earth flavors. Strong underlying structure frames and extends the sweet fruit through a very long, firmly tannic finish. Compelling soil tones linger on the palate. A big wine, from grapes picked at just the right moment." (Apr 2000)
