  • Many people tend to see Robert Jayer-Gilles as the cousin of the legendary Henri Jayersometimes not enough attention on how great a winemaker he is himself
  • As an introduction, we have selected his works from Hautes Cotes de Nuits
  • While many feel that Hautes Cotes wines could be less in depth due to the higher altitude of the vineyard, Robert compensates by limiting yield and higher proportion of new oak used
  • Result: an absolutely fabulous wine expressing the terrior, and allowing sooner enjoyment

Burghound: 86-89
"Outstanding Top Value! By contrast, this is ripe, fresh and pure with lovely red berry fruit and stone notes that introduce the supple, forward and utterly delicious flavors that possess a firm and balanced finish that should ultimately be quite seductive. This offers excellent quality for its level it should be perfect with 3 to 5 years of cellar time." (Jan 2011)

IWC: 87-89
"Good deep ruby-red. Lively aromas of blackberry, violet, licorice and bitter chocolate. Juicy and bright, with lovely minerally cut. A bit tight and youthfully imploded but sharply delineated for 2009. Finishes with licorice and bitter chocolate nuances. This has a low pH of 3.4, says Jayer." (Feb 2011)
