Jean Grivot Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2007

WS:92
  • The domaine dated back before the French Revolution, when Joseph Grivot sold his vineyards in Hautes Cotes and settled in Vosne-Romanee
  • Joseph's son, Gaston, was one of the first graduate of oenology from Univ. of Dijon in 1920s; together with Jean (Gaston's son), they built up the reputation of the domaine worldwide
  • In 1987, Etienne, the current winemaker, took over the domaine upon finishing his study of viti- and viniculture and working in California and elsewhere in France
  • Etienne brought in new improvements to the domaine by focusing on the basics (soil's balance, yield management, harvesting dates, use of oak, etc.)
  • The wine we selected from this talented winemaker is his premier cru Les Boudots from Nuits-St-Georges (note that there is no grand cru in Nuits-St-Georges, and if there were to be one, Les Boudots would likely be the one)

Wine Spectator: 92
"A rich, opulent style, packed with red cherry, blackberry and spice flavors that butt up against the dense, grainy tannins. There's plenty of flesh and sweet fruit to match the structure, and the long aftertaste reveals a mineral facet. Best from 2013 through 2025." (May 2010)
