  • Why you should try: mature, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru from a highly regarded winemaker
  • Background: Dated back to the 18th century, Joseph Drouhin remains as one of the largest and most respectable winemaker / negociant in Burgundy with >73 hectares of vineyards throughout the area. Wine is aged in French oak for 14-18 months, with only 20% new oak used. They place particularly attention to the wood of the barrel; the wood needs to go through 3 years of weathering, thus contributing to the elegance of the wine
  • Blend: 100% Pinot Noir

Burghound: 92
"A very fresh and exceptionally elegant nose combines notes of red and blue pinot fruit as well as undertones of earth, violets and hint of spice that is also picked up on the cool, refined and nicely intense middle weight flavors that offer real depth and punch on the admirably long finish. This is only moderately structured though in this format, it will certainly require some medium-term patience. In short, a lovely effort that is soft enough that it could be enjoyed now, even in magnum format though it will certainly improve for years to come." (Feb 2008)
