"A curious aromatic impression as this is quite ripe yet the character is rather one of youthful austerity followed by powerful, focused, impressively intense, grapey, and classically earthy flavors of penetrating intensity. This is structured but not hard and will require every bit of a decade to begin drinking well." (Apr 2003)

"Good deep red. Dark berries, menthol, Cuban tobacco and earth on the nose, with a slightly cooked aspect. Concentrated and high-toned but distinctly tough and closed today. The earth and tobacco notes carry through to the tannic finish. Very clenched today, and almost certainly better than it's showing." (Apr 2004)
"Full medium ruby. Black cherry, dark chocolate, licorice and minerals on the nose. Penetrating and juicy, with atypical freshness for a young Clos Vougeot. Rather powerful wine with excellent chewy extract. Finishes with notes of chocolate and leather. This wine's substantial tannins will require several years of bottle aging" (Apr 2003)

"Firm style of Clos Vougeot, with mineral, wet earth, cherry pit, and blackberries. Medium-bodied, you wish for more flesh and opulence for a grand cru." (Feb 2004)
