  • The Jaboulet company was founded by Antoine Jaboulet in 1843; his twin sons, Paul and Henri, continued to build the family business
  • The elder son ("aîné" in French), Paul, established the company in its present form and gave it his own name; since then, the company has been run by successive generations of sons from that side of the Jaboulet family
  • The reputation of Jaboulet wines comes from the quality of the well situated and tended vineyards, low yields, careful vinification, and diligent aging in oak casks
  • The pearl of the estate is their Hermitage "La Chapelle" - "is one of the great red wines of the world" as stated by Clive Coates
  • The vines from "La Chapelle" is 40-60 years old (with very low yield of merely 10 to 18 hl/ha) - you just can't miss this wine!

Wine Enthusiast: 94
"Jaboulet’s view of its most famous wine seems to have changed. Although the concentrated, dense tannins and big black fruit flavors are still there, it has lost the huge brooding presence of past vintages, and now has a veneer of sophistication with superripe fruit, plums and dark jam tastes. Whether this 1999 will age as well as older vintages remains to be seen, but it will certainly be ready to drink sooner." (Jun 2003)

IWC: 93+
"Medium-deep red-ruby. Roasted, tarry red fruits, animal fur and chocolate on the nose; as vibrant and vinous as a barrel sample. Extremely lush and concentrated, and already highly aromatic in the mouth, with notes of red and black fruits, roasted nuts, spices, chocolate and tobacco. Beautifully integrated acidity. Finishes very long, with substantial, very fine tannins. A superb vintage for this top Hermitage bottling." (Jan 2002)
