  • considered one of the top domaines in Southern Rhone, Domaine du Pegau was officially founded in 1987, but the family was already making wines in 1700's
  • unlike Northern Rhone (e.g. Cote-Rotie) where Syrah is the dominant grape varietal, Grenache is widely used in the South
  • on top of Grenache, winemakers can choose up to another 12 varietals to make their blends
  • this Cuvee Reservee is 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 4% Mourvedre and remaining 6% of any other local varietals
  • already 17 years old, no more waiting, it's perfect for immediate drinking
  • I hate to repeat, but yes, best price in town, usually >$1,200 in HK

Wine Advocate: 94
"The 1995 Cuvee Reservee exhibits an opaque black/purple color, and extraordinary rich, intense aromas of smoke, black raspberries, kirsch, and spice. Exceptionally full-bodied, with an unctuous texture, and a thick, rich, expansive mid-palate, this superbly concentrated wine appears to be a worthy rival to this estate's phenomenal 1989 and 1990. Interestingly, the average alcohol level achieved by Domaine du Pegau in 1995 was 14.5-15.5%. This is a blockbuster Chateauneuf du Pape."

Wine Spectator: 89
"This round, generous red shows an international style, with plump, ripe flavors of plum and black cherry and firm tannins that support the fruit. Clean and balanced, with good definition."
